Society of Publishers in Asia Hosts Networking Party to Bring Together Publishing Industry’s Key Players
The Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) hosted their inaugural end-of-year Christmas Party at The Pawn on December 1st, 2011, bringing together key players in the publishing industry. Notable guests included Barrie Goodridge, Chairman and CEO – Asia and Regional Group of Edipresse Asia Limited, Azmar Sukandar, Head of Communications, Asia Pacific of Financial Times, Jocelyn Cripps, Marketing Director – Asia Pacific of Financial Times, Elsie Cheung, Chief Operating Officer of South China Morning Post, Terry Chan, Chief Operating Officer of One Media Group, and Christina Lee, Asia Managing Director of Bloomberg Businessweek, etc.
One of the key messages delivered at the event was reiterated by Mr. David E. Smith, Chairman of SOPA, who stated that, “With changes to the political, economic and social climates, it is more important than ever for all of us in the publishing industry to work together and adapt to these new challenges. SOPA offers a platform for all of us to network and collaborate on key issues, and to face these challenges together as an industry.”
Indeed, SOPA will have an increasingly important role in the near future in providing guidance and a clear channel of dissemination in sharing information with key stakeholders as the publishing industry continues to evolve and experience new innovations and challenges in the information age.
“In order to remain a beacon in the industry, we recognize that SOPA needs to adjust our mission to serve the fast-changing landscape of the publishing industry, as well as take an active role in the training and development of our stakeholders,” Mr. Smith remarked, “and these are just some of the things that SOPA is committing themselves to and shall announce in due time as we enter the new year and what will be a very exciting and meaningful time for SOPA!”
