Message from SOPA Editorial Awards Subcommittee Chairman

Already in its thirteenth year, the Society of Publishers in Asia Awards for Editorial Excellence has been organized annually by the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) since 1999. The objectives of the Awards are to promote the highest journalistic standards and support press freedom by recognizing the editorial achievements of journalists and publications from around the region.

At its core, SOPA is an organization that seeks to foster best practices in professional publishing and responsible journalism, and in echoing these goals, the Asia Awards for Editorial Excellence serves to provide a benchmark for quality journalism.

We continue to receive multiple entries from the region’s best newspapers, magazines, wire services and websites. New technology and new formats to engage readers means outstanding journalism is taking place everyday that accesses a wider audience than ever. However, SOPA’s mission continues to be the promotion of high journalistic standards no matter how the news is presented.

Through the 2011 Awards, we hope to encourage more publications and journalists to showcase and seek recognition for their editorial achievements, while supporting enterprising journalism that tackles the world’s most important issues.
