The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and progressive newsroom practices is far from new. Robots are already playing a significant role in data collection, verification, article generation, and audience-specific adaptation. Moreover, innovative tools are aiding newsrooms in delivering an enhanced reporting experience. 

However, it’s vital to recognize that newsroom innovation encompasses a broader spectrum beyond technology. How do we stay focused on the most critical stakeholders—the readers, listeners, and viewers—in the digital age?

Google News Initiative, in partnership with Nine Publishing, National Indigenous Times, BusinessDesk NZ, and Bastion Transform developed a framework for newsrooms to prioritize, plan, run, and review experiments. The report shows how the newsrooms succeeded in capturing audience value and creating an innovative day-to-day culture.
