The Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) announces new board members

[January 2014] – The Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA), an organization dedicated to best practices in professional publishing, held their Annual General Meeting.

SOPA elected five new members to its board of directors. The new board members are:

Ms. Khoon-Fong Ang (Publishing Director, TIME and Fortune, Asia Pacific) as Deputy Chairwoman,

Mr. Kenny Chan (Operation Director , South China Media Group),

Mr. Michael Chu (Director of Marketing, South China Morning Post),

Mr. Lawrence Jang (Advertising Director – North Asia, New York Times Global), and

Ms. Dorothy Wong (Marketing Director, One Media Group).

All voted in favor of re-electing Mr. David E. Smith (Regional Director, Advertising and Sponsorship, The Economist) as Chairman for the fourth year in a row, Mr. Simon Chu (Director of Operations, Financial Times) as Honorary Treasurer and Ms. Lillian Kung (Regional Manager NE Asia, Bloomberg Businessweek) as Honorary Secretary.

“I am honored to be elected as SOPA’s Chairman again for the fourth year and sincerely thank all board members for their support. I would also like to welcome our new board members who I am confident will inject new energy into the organization.

At SOPA we remain committed to addressing and sharing the best publishing practices in our industry. In 2014, we will continue to have industry events and will continue actively recruiting new members to bring in more new ideas and better the connection among the publishers in the region. I look forward to the opportunity to work collaboratively with all of you and I will endeavor to guide the organization in the New Year”, said Mr. David E. Smith.

SOPA Executive Board 2014 welcomed other re-elected board members including Ms. Desiree Au (Publisher, TimeOut Hong Kong), Ms. Charlotte Lee (Regional Circulation Director, of The Wall Street Journal Asia), Ms. Anne Lim-Chaplain (Publisher and Managing Director, Hubert Burda Media Hong Kong Limited) and Ms. Jessica Triffitt (Group Sales Director, Haymarket)
